Theodore Learns About the Women's 5000 Metres Race

Theodore the curious turtle was excited to learn about a big running race called the women's 5000 metres.

The race happened at a special sports event in 2007 called the World Championships in Athletics. It took place at a big stadium in Japan.

Theodore found out that in this race, the women had to run around the track many times - a total of 5000 metres! That's very far for a little turtle.

The fastest runner was a woman named Meseret Defar from Ethiopia. She won the gold medal by finishing first in 14 minutes and 57 seconds.

Two runners from Kenya, Vivian Cheruiyot and Priscah Jepleting Cherono, won silver and bronze medals for coming in second and third place.

Fifteen women from different countries around the world ran in the final race. They all tried their very best to run fast.

Theodore thought it was amazing that humans could run so far and so quickly. He was glad to learn about this exciting race, even if turtles prefer to take things a little slower!
