Theodore Learns About the 2016 Rio Open Women's Doubles Tournament
Theodore the curious turtle was swimming near Rio de Janeiro when he noticed a lot of excitement coming from a tennis stadium. He poked his head out of the water to see what was happening.
"What's all the commotion about?" Theodore asked a friendly seagull.
"It's the women's doubles final of the 2016 Rio Open tennis tournament!" the seagull squawked.
Theodore was intrigued. He had never watched a tennis match before. The seagull explained that in doubles, two teams of two players each compete against each other.
As Theodore watched, he saw Verónica Cepede Royg from Paraguay and María Irigoyen from Argentina playing against Tara Moore from the United Kingdom and Conny Perrin from Switzerland.
The match was very close and exciting. Cepede Royg and Irigoyen won the first set 6-1. But Moore and Perrin fought back hard in the second set.
"Look, they're going to a tiebreak!" the seagull exclaimed as the second set reached 6-6.
Theodore held his breath as the players battled in the tiebreak. Finally, Cepede Royg and Irigoyen won it 7-5 to claim victory.
"What an amazing match!" Theodore said. "I can't wait to watch more tennis tournaments."
As he swam away, Theodore felt happy he had learned all about doubles tennis and the exciting 2016 Rio Open women's final.
