Theodore Learns About Speed Skating at the Winter Youth Olympics
Theodore the turtle was watching TV when he saw some young athletes gliding gracefully across the ice. He was curious to learn more about this exciting sport.
The announcer said it was speed skating at the Winter Youth Olympics. Theodore discovered that 33 girls from 18 different countries were racing in the 1500 meter event.
The skaters zoomed around an oval ice rink called the Gangneung Oval. They wore special suits and skates to help them go fast. Theodore was amazed at how quickly they moved!
The race lasted just over 2 minutes. A girl named Angel from the Netherlands won the gold medal with a time of 2 minutes and 2.90 seconds. Liu from China got the silver medal, and Hanna from Poland won bronze.
Theodore thought it was neat how athletes from all over the world came together to compete. He imagined himself gliding across the ice, even though turtles aren't known for their speed!
As he watched the skaters receive their medals, Theodore felt inspired. He realized with practice and determination, young people can accomplish amazing things. Maybe someday he'd get to see the Youth Olympics in person!
