Theodore Learns About Monaco at the 1998 Winter Olympics
Theodore the curious turtle was exploring his pond one day when he came across an old sports magazine. As he flipped through the pages, he saw pictures of snowy mountains and people sliding on ice. This sparked his interest in learning about the Winter Olympics.
Theodore discovered that in 1998, a small country called Monaco sent athletes to compete in the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Even though Monaco is a tiny country, they were able to participate in this big international event!
Monaco sent 4 athletes, all men, to compete in bobsledding. Bobsledding is when teams ride in a sled down an icy track at very high speeds. It looked so exciting to Theodore!
The Monaco team had two events they competed in:
- A two-man bobsled race
- A four-man bobsled race
In the two-man race, Monaco's team came in 24th place out of all the countries. For the four-man race, they finished 28th.
Theodore thought it was amazing that such a small country could compete against much bigger nations. Even though they didn't win any medals, just being there was a big accomplishment.
The turtle was fascinated to learn about this small slice of Olympic history. He wondered what other interesting stories he might uncover about past Olympics as he continued exploring his pond.
