Theodore Learns About Invasive Species
Theodore the turtle was swimming in his favorite pond when he noticed some new plants he had never seen before. Curious, he asked his friend, the wise old frog, about them.
"Those are invasive species," croaked the frog. "They're plants and animals that don't belong here naturally."
Theodore tilted his head. "How did they get here then?"
The frog explained, "Sometimes humans bring them, by accident or on purpose. These new species can cause problems for the plants and animals that already live here."
Theodore looked worried. "What kind of problems?"
"Well," said the frog, "they might eat all the food, take over spaces where others live, or make it hard for native species to survive."
Theodore thought about this. "Are there invasive species everywhere?"
The frog nodded. "Many places have them. In Africa, Australia, Europe, and even islands like Hawaii. Each place has its own list of invasive species to watch out for."
Theodore was fascinated. "Wow, I never knew! I'll keep an eye out for any new plants or animals that don't seem to fit in."
The frog smiled. "That's a great idea, Theodore. It's important to learn about and protect the natural world around us."
As Theodore swam away, he felt proud to have learned something new about his pond and the wider world beyond.
