Theodore Learns About a Ski Champion Named Terry Ahola
Theodore the turtle was gliding through the snow on his shell when he spotted a pair of skis zooming by. Curious, he poked his head out to see who was skiing so fast.
"Wow!" exclaimed Theodore. "That looks like fun!"
The skier stopped nearby and introduced himself as Terry Ahola. Theodore listened excitedly as Terry shared his story.
Terry explained that he grew up in a place called Gladstone, Michigan. As a child, he learned to ski using homemade boots his father made from old shoes nailed to skis!
Theodore was amazed to hear that Terry became so good at skiing that he joined the U.S. Ski Team. For three years, Terry raced in big competitions all over the world.
Sadly, Terry hurt his knee and had to stop racing. But that didn't end his love for skiing! He kept competing in different events and even became a ski commentator on TV.
"What's a commentator?" asked Theodore.
"It's someone who explains what's happening during ski races," Terry replied with a smile.
Theodore learned that Terry now runs a hotel and helps musicians. He still loves skiing and often goes to events to support the U.S. Ski Team.
As Terry skied away, Theodore thought about how exciting it would be to zoom down snowy mountains. Maybe one day he'd try skiing too - though he'd need some very special ski boots for his turtle feet!
