Theodore Discovers the Jowler Creek
Theodore the turtle was splashing around in his favorite pond when he noticed a small stream flowing into it. Curious, he decided to follow it upstream.
As he swam along, Theodore saw fish darting between rocks and plants swaying in the gentle current. He wondered where this stream came from and what it was called.
Soon, Theodore met a wise old frog sitting on a lily pad. "Excuse me," Theodore asked politely, "do you know the name of this stream?"
The frog croaked, "Why, this is Jowler Creek, young turtle. It runs through Platte County in the state of Missouri."
Theodore was excited to learn something new. "Jowler Creek," he repeated, trying out the name. "That's an interesting name. Do you know why it's called that?"
The frog scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Well, there are two stories about that. Some say it was named after a person who lived nearby long ago. But others think it got its name because farmers used to throw leftover parts from pig butchering into the creek."
Theodore's eyes widened. "Wow, that's quite a story!" he exclaimed.
As he continued his journey, Theodore thought about how every place, even a small creek, can have an interesting history. He couldn't wait to explore more and learn about other streams and rivers in Missouri.
