Theodore Discovers the Annang Festival of Arts and Culture
Theodore the turtle was swimming in a river in Nigeria when he heard excited chatter from the shore. He poked his head out of the water to see what was happening.
"What's all the excitement about?" Theodore asked a colorful parrot perched on a branch.
"It's time for the Annang Festival of Arts and Culture!" the parrot squawked. "It happens every year in Ikot Ekpene to celebrate the Annang people's history and traditions."
Theodore's eyes widened with curiosity. He climbed out of the river to learn more.
The festival lasted for three exciting days. Theodore watched in awe as over 800 people wearing elaborate masks danced through the streets. There was a parade of Annang warriors and a huge drum ensemble with 5,000 drums!
Theodore loved seeing all the beautiful artwork on display. There were intricate sculptures and colorful paintings showing scenes from Annang life and legends.
In the evenings, Theodore listened to storytellers share ancient Annang folktales. He even got to taste some delicious traditional Annang foods.
"This festival is amazing!" Theodore exclaimed. "It really shows off the rich culture of the Annang people."
The parrot nodded in agreement. "That's why they started it in 2016 - to preserve Annang traditions and share them with visitors from all over."
Theodore was glad he got to experience this special celebration. He hoped to come back next year to learn even more about the vibrant Annang culture.
