Theodore Discovers Chester College Chapel
Theodore Discovers Chester College Chapel
Theodore the turtle was exploring the city of Chester when he came across an interesting building. It was Chester College Chapel, a beautiful old chapel that was now part of the University of Chester.
Theodore learned that the chapel was built between 1844 and 1847. It was designed by an architect named J.E. Gregan. What fascinated Theodore most was that the students of the college helped build it! They quarried and carved the stone, worked on the woodwork, and even made some of the stained glass windows.
The chapel was made of red sandstone and had a green slate roof. Theodore admired its tall spire and large stained glass windows. Inside, he saw wooden seats facing each other and beautiful tiles on the floor. There was a fancy organ with carved decorations and some paintings donated by a duke.
Theodore was amazed to see windows designed by different artists over many years. His favorite was one from 1952 that showed the students building the chapel long ago.
As he left, Theodore felt glad he had discovered this special place with so much history. He hoped to visit again someday to learn even more about Chester College Chapel.
