Theodore Discovers a Village in India

Theodore the turtle was exploring the world map when he spotted a tiny dot in southern India. Curious, he zoomed in to learn more about this place called Uliyankudi.

Uliyankudi was a small village in a state called Tamil Nadu. Theodore found out it was home to about 3,365 people. That's more turtles than he could count on his flippers!

The villagers spoke a language called Tamil. Theodore tried saying "vanakkam" which means hello in Tamil. He giggled at how funny it sounded coming from a turtle's mouth.

Theodore noticed the village had almost the same number of boys and girls. He imagined them playing cricket and hopscotch together after school.

The turtle was surprised to learn that only about half the villagers could read and write. He felt lucky that he had learned to read maps and books on his adventures.

Theodore checked the time in Uliyankudi. It was 5 and a half hours ahead of his home time! He wondered what the villagers were doing at that moment.

As the sun set on his map, Theodore dreamed of visiting Uliyankudi someday. He imagined making new friends and learning Tamil words from the village children. What an adventure that would be!
